Google have gone down the road of integration with Google’s own web service rather than integration with the operating system. It’s yet to be seen whether this is a bad move or not but I’d say, from a usability point of view, if Google had decided to integrate with the operating system more closely, the ease of use and in turn the value the tool provides would be increased. On the other hand though I can see why Google haven’t done that as they want to strengthen the brand by making sure that you know this is a Google product each time you use it.
